Abstract

1386012 Agitating powders by air currents CLAUDIUS PETERS AG 2 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 20451/72 Heading B1C Apparatus for batch or continuous blending of materials such as cement, lime or gypsum comprises a silo 1 having a blending chamber 9 therein communicating with the silo as by apertures 18, 22, aerating elements 25 in the chamber 9 and two annular rows of aerating elements 16, 17 in the silo. As shown there is an additional annular row of aerating elements 21 above the row 17. The incoming material is supplied by a conveyor 5 to a fluidized bar 4 whence it is uniformly distributed by pipes 6; the blended powder is discharged at 28 and air vented through the filter 2. The aerating elements consist of radially arranged horizontal conveyers and are connected in sectors which (in the blending chamber 9) are quadrants, and to which air can be selectively supplied by a distributor 8 capable of regulating the pattern, duration and intensity of aeration in any pre-determined way. The arrangement enables material from outer regions of the silo 1 to be transported into the blending chamber 9 substantially without admixture with material from inner regions. In operation the inner regions may be aerated for a shorter time than the outer, and selective aeration of regions of the silo may take place simultaneously with aeration of the adjacent quadrant of the blending chamber.
