Abstract

1469732 Mixing powder by gas currents H MOLLER [trading as JOHANNES MOLLER] 6 Jan 1975 [10 Jan 1974] 475/75 Heading B1C In mixing the contents (e.g. cement powder) of a silo 1 during discharge thereof successively through an annular passage between a cone 4 and a funnel-shaped silo base 2, a mixing chamber 7 below the cone, and a central outlet 3, wherein aeration of the contents overlying sectors of the base 2 is effected successively in rotation, the aeration period at any one of the sectors differs from that at a following sector so that the drop in content level in the annular passage is not circumferentially uniform and mixing is enhanced. As shown, the cone 4 is supported on the base by way of legs 5, and aeration is effected by way of aeration plates in the base such that the contents overlying a narrow annular portion 8 surrounding the outlet 3 are aerated continuously, and the contents overlying eight separate sectors I-VIII are successively aerated. In the described embodiment, a sequence of six different aeration periods is successively applied at sectors I-VI, VII-IV, V-II and so on, so that the contents overlying each sector are aerated for different periods in each rotary cycle. The sequence may be periodically reversed. Preferably, the shortest aeration period is sufficient to fluidise all the contents overlying any one sector, and the aggregate time for all of the periods in one rotary cycle is less than the settling time of the contents overlying any one sector.
