Abstract

1385885 Bleaching composition LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Oct 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 46423/71 Heading DIP A bleaching composition comprises an aqueous solution having a pH of at least 10.8 containing alkali metal hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, alkali metal borate and an organic sequestrant. The alkali metal hydroxide may be sodium, potassium or lithium hydroxide, or a mixture thereof. The borate can be sodium or potassium borate or a mixture thereof. The sequestrant may be ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid, N-(2-hydroxyethyl) ethylene diamine triacetic acid, triethylene tetramine hexaacetic acid, or (2-hydroxy-phenyl)-acetic acid derivatives thereof. Calcium chloride, magnesium sulphate degraded proteins, alkyl or alkyl-aryl poly (ethyleneoxy) phosphates, stabilisers silicates, and alkali metal carbonates or phosphates may also be present. The liquor may be added in an amount of 50-125% wt of the textile. The impregnated textile may be heated in steam under pressure to 70-150‹C. The bleached material can be washed in water and/or hot aqueous alkali and acetic or formic acid. The textile may be desized by enzyme, acid or alkaline hypochlorite, or may be initially bleached with chlorite, hypochlorite or caustic alkali. The textile may be cotton or cotton/ polyester.
