Abstract

1384122 Adjustable supports for chairs PARNALL & SONS Ltd 14 Feb 1973 [1 March 1972] 9439/72 Heading A4J [Also in Division E2] A support 15 connected to a first part of a chair is slidable relative to a casing 10 connected to a second part of the chair and is locked by movement, relative to the casing, of two rollers 27, 28 spring-baised into engagement with one face of the support 15 by two C-shaped springs 25, 26 and moveable against the springs out of engagement with the support by rotation of a cam 30. The casing may be pivotally connected to a backrest 14 by a rod 13 which abuts the other face of the support to define with the casing a guide for the support. The casing may be provided with a face plate (41), Fig.5 (not shown) which guides the other face of the support. A knob 32 for rotating the cam is provided. The knob may be positioned on the side of the support away from the cam, the shaft connecting the knob and cam extending through a slot in the support Fig.7 (not shown). The support and casing may be applied to armrests of chairs. The distance between the backrest and seat of the chair may be altered by providing a casing which receives the backrest stem beneath the seat.
