Abstract

1381497 Tunnelling machines EDMUND NUTTALL Ltd 1 Feb 1972 [27 July 1971] 35331/71 Heading E1F A tunnelling machine comprises a shield 1 and a digging head mounted within and on the forward portion of the shield and comprising a single cutter-carrying arm 5 that is oscillated about an axis 7 extending substantially horizontally and at right angles to the axis of the shield. The arm is oscillated by a chain drive 10 or by a rocking lever, both of which can be actuated by hydraulically powered, piston cylinder motors 13, 14. Multi bladed rotors 34a feed excavated material onto a conveyer 31 extending back through the shield. Specification 1381496 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specifications 1278347.
