Abstract

1380021 Monitoring apparatus HOOGOVENS IJMUIDEN BV 12 Jan 1973 1822/73 Heading G1J [Also in Division G4] In apparatus for monitoring the operation of an industrial plant, contacts, each of which is sensitive to a failure of apparatus or a change of a parameter in a process, are grouped in clusters which are connected to a respective diode matrix, the signals from which are continuously scanned by a computer, any change in the state of a contact being immediately displayed on a visual display device for a transitory period, and recorded on a teleprinter. An aural warning may also be given. An auxiliary panel is associated with each matrix so that the correction of any fault may be checked on site whether or not the computer is in operation. Each contact is connected to a row and a column of a matrix via a diode. Voltage pulses are applied in rapid succession to AND gates connected to each column, and also to each row. Thus, in the event of a contact closing, signifying a plant fault, the AND gate receives two pulses, resulting in the transfer of a binary signal to the computer. Vital computer parts are duplicated, and the disappearance, location and type of breakdown may also be recorded for later analysis. Further, the computer may be provided with means enabling a review of the condition of all or part of the plant and means for the restarting of a monitoring program after a power failure, the computer having a "memory" which is unaffected by a power failure.
