Abstract

1398874 Monitoring voltage levels at a plurality of points KOMBINAT UMFORMTECHNIK ERFURT VEB 24 July 1972 34494/72 Heading G1U [Also in Division H2] The voltages existing at a plurality of points 1,2,..., n, Fig. 2, are monitored to determine whether any rises above a pre-set threshold level, such rises being associated with faults, by associating a bi-stable threshold device with each point via appropriate coupling circuits 8,9, by detecting, by means of a gate 7, when any one, or more, bi-stable devices becomes set in its 'one' state - which corresponds to the existence of a fault - and then, by means of a scanning circuit 12,14,15, sequentially connecting the bi-stable circuits, oneby-one, over contacts 13, to a further detector 16 so that the particular bi-stables which are set in their 'one' states can be identified. In operation the system is initially reset by depressing a key 10 which puts a bi-stable 11 into a state in which it resets all the threshold bi-stables 4 to 'zero'. If the points 1,2,..., n, are associated, as in the embodiment described, with a machine tool, then once the machine is switched on a contact 20 is closed. Monitoring of the points 1,2, ...,n, now proceeds and providing no fault occurs all the threshold bi-stables 4 remain in their 'zero' reset states and a lamp 6 is energized via a gate 5. When a fault occurs, it is detected by both gate 5, which deenergizes lamp 6, and gate 7 which reverses the state of bi-stable 11 thereby causing the scanning control unit 17 to connect the bi-stables 4 sequentially to the detector 16. When a bi-stable 4 registering a fault condition is found, the detector 16 causes further scanning to be inhibited until a "continue scan" device 18 is manually actuated. While scanning is inhibited the number of the point at which it stopped is indicated on a device 3 so that the fault can either be repaired or its location noted, before scanning is restarted.
