Abstract
1379906 Battery terminals JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 30 May 1972 [9 June 1971] 19585/71 Heading H1B [Also in Division H2] In a storage battery of the kind comprising a container 9 divided into compartments of which an end one is shown at 12, each compartment containing a plurality of plates connected to conductive bars such as 13 which interconnect plates of the same polarity in adjacent compartments, a terminal 14 comprises a polypropylene sleeve 16 mounted within aperture 19 in side wall 11 and supports bush 17 riveted at 23 to extension 15 of bar 13, the terminal assembly providing a socket into which a member 24 can be plugged to provide external electrical connection to the battery by cable 23, and as shown plastics cap 26 carried by cable 23 engaging sleeve 16 to secure the connection, in co-operation with spring 29. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) a rib on the plug member itself engages a circumferential recess in the inside wall of sleeve 16, and the cable, extending parallel to the side wall, is received in a semi-circular groove in sleeve 16. Rotation of the plug moves the cable out of the groove and away from the side wall to disengage the connection.
