Abstract

1379470 Viscosimeters A C I OPERATIONS PTY Ltd 1 Aug 1972 35975/72 Headings G1A, G1N and G1S Electrically conductive liquid is drawn from a tank through a valve 1 and filter 2 by vacuum pipe 4 into vessel 3. When the rising liquid contacts electrical sensor 5 the vacuum is shutoff, the vessel is vented to atmosphere through pipe 4 and the liquid is allowed to flow out through orifice 8 and valve 7 so that when the level of sensor 9 is reached a timer is activated. The timer operates until the level of sensor 10 is reached. After a set period of time air-pressure is introduced at 4 and valve 1 is closed so that the vessel 3 is emptied and the orifice 8 cleared. After a further interval, valve 1 is opened and air blows the filter 2 and valve 1 free of all liquid in preparation for another cycle. In a modification the sensors may be thermal and react to the temperature of the liquid, and in Fig. 2 the capacitance of rings 5, 5'; 9, 9'; 10, 10' changes as the liquid level falls. In Fig. 3 a magnet 11 rests on a float 12 and induces voltage in coils 5, 9 and 10, and in Fig. 4 (not shown) radiation beam means 5', 9' and 10' are interrupted by the float 12 causing variation in signal from receivers 5, 9 and 10.
