1296977 Temperature responsive actuating elements UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Dec 1969 [23 Dec 1968] 61025/68 Heading G1D A temperature responsive device comprises an expansible chamber in the form of a metal cup 2 sealed by a membrane 3 to a metallic bellows 1, the chamber being connected by a tube 5 to a temperature sensing phial 6 containing a liquid 9 such as methyl alcohol together with a residual quantity of air and an absorbent material 7 held in place by a gauze 8. The absorbent material may be ceramic either natural or synthetic and may take the form of loose or woven fibres, felt, powder or a number of solid pieces sintered together. Alternatively, glass, sand, grit or stone or metal in the form of wire, wire-wool, gauze, expanded metal or sintered or porous metal may be employed. A tube 4 is provided for evacuation if the device prior to filling with the liquid 9, the tube 4 then being sealed off.
