Abstract
1379281 Switching device for elevated railway M BARTHALON 13 March 1972 [16 March 1971] 11539/72 Heading B7L A switching device for selectively guiding a suspended air-cushion vehicle between a main track 1 and either of two branch tracks 2, 3 comprises a straight track section 6 and a curved track section 7 mounted together in a frame 8 for common rotation through 180 degrees about a horizontal axis X-X between two positions in a first of which the track section 6 connects the main track 1 to the branch track 2 and in the second of which, as shown in Fig. 3, the track section 7 connects the track 1 to the branch track 3. Rotation of the assembly is effected by a control unit 34 which may be an hydraulic motor, an electric motor and reduction gear, or a pair of hydraulic jacks which actuate a rotating mechanism. To prevent leakage of the air from the vehicle's air cushion at track connections, the extremity of each track is provided with an inflatable seal which is inflated to engage a complementary face on the associate track section when a connection is made and is deflated to allow free relative rotation otherwise. The track sections may be relatively mounted so that a rotation of other than 180 degrees is necessary to move the assembly between its two connecting positions and the branch tracks may be at different levels.
