Abstract

1280798 Automatic pneumatically operated entry gates COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'AUTOMATISME 13 May 1971 [13 May 1970 11 June 1970 10 July 1970 19 Oct 1970] 14684/71 Heading E1J [Also in Division G4] An entry gate or barrier assembly, e.g. coin freed or ticket controlled initiation of operation comprises at least one inflatable pocket 41, 51, e.g. of rubber, or plastics material lined with foamed polyurethane, mounted in a recess 6, 7, on a support 2, 3, and so arranged that under normal circumstances the passage way 1 is clear, the pockets being deflated and under adverse circumstances when the coin freed mechanism does not operate correctly or an invalid ticket is presented to the device 110 for testing its validity, a signal is transmitted from the device 110 to the control system 112 which operates valves 10, 11 to connect the pockets to the source 12, 15 of compressed air to inflate the pockets 4, 5 which close the passage way 1, and at the same time valves 24, 24A break the communication between the pockets and the expansion chambers 18. Safety valve 25 avoids excessive pressure build up in the pockets and ensures when necessary direct communication between the pockets and expansion chambers 18. A signal from the photosensitive cell arrangement 30-111, is transmitted to the control system 112 when a person or vehicle breaks the light beam. Items 22, 23 and 26 cut down noise due to sudden inflation or deflation. The arrangement may be made suitable for twoway operation (Fig. 6). The inflation conduit 8, 9 terminates in a device for distributing the compressed air in a uniform manner over the internal surface of the pocket (Figs. 4, 5) which surface may be hemispherical or elipsoidal and the pockets may be of concertina form with strengthened interconnecting surfaces (Fig. 3).
