Abstract

1378135 Regulating yarn tension BLEICHE AG 14 May 1973 [15 May 1972] 2296/73 Headings DID and D1F In a method of maintaining constant the tension in a travelling yarn which is braked by brake members, the yarn is guided in a directed airflow against abutments 9, 10 in such a way that under the effect of the airflow the yarn experiences, between the abutments 9, 10, a deflection which changes in dependence upon the tension, the change in deflection from that corresponding to the desired tension changing the pressure in a pressure head 16 mounted in the airflow, this change in pressure influencing the brake members e.g. discs 29, 30 to restore the tension to the desired value. The travelling yarn 18 has a tension imparted to it by brake members 29 and 30 which are adjustably spring urged together. The yarn then passes through a passage in a block comprising front and back plates 1 and 4. The passage has a base 6 provided by a spacer plate 3 and the block carries abutments 9 and 10 directed towards the base 6 of the passage. An airflow is directed into the passage at the base 6 via a nozzle 11 connected to a hose 13. In the side wall of the passage is situated a nozzle 14 which receives an air pressure by virtue of the air issuing from nozzle 11 impingeing on the yarn 18. The amount of deflection of the yarn determines the air pressure received in nozzle 14. The nozzle 14 is connected to a pressure head 16 via a hose 15. The pressure head 16 comprises a diaphragm 42 which acts on a rod 40 which is in turn connected to a pressure plate 37. The pressure plate 37 is spring urged against the disc 30 which together with the disc 29 forms the yarn brake. Variation in pressure on the diaphragm therefore varies the position of the plate 37 and therefore the pressure between the discs 29 and 30. In an alternative embodiment, the pressure head 16 is provided with electrical contact means on the diaphragm whereby if the tension in the yarn rises to a predetermined value a signal lamp is illuminated. The pressure head may also include contacts which operate when the pressure on the diaphragm falls to indicate a yarn break, and the contacts act on the drive motor of the machine to stop the machine. The front plate 4 of the yarn passage block may be transparent and include a scale 17 indicating the yarn tension.
