Abstract
1377973 Conduit couplings SIMPLEX POWER CENTRE Ltd 9 Aug 1972 [4 Aug 1971] 36543/71 Heading H2E A coupling device comprises a metal sleeve 31 having one or more tongues 21 within apertures 17 in the sleeve wall, the free end of the or each tongue having a sharp edge which lies inwardly of the internal surface of the sleeve and obliquely to a plane normal to the sleeve axis. The sleeve is stamped from sheet steel and the tongues simultaneously stamped such that the metal along the boundaries 18, 19, 22, 23 of the aperture 17 is dragged to form the sharp edge (24, Fig. 3, not shown). From the uncut end 20 the tongue is bent first to extend outwardly of the sleeve and then to extend through its aperture 17 beyond the internal surface of the sleeve, Fig. 5 (not shown). Side edges of the stamped sheet may be left unjoined to form a gap 32 to provide radial resilience. A sleeve may receive a conduit pipe at one end 33 and the sharp edge 24 will dig into the pipe and retain it; the other end may be welded to a box. A sleeve for joining two pipes has tongues 21 adjacent each end with the free ends facing towards the centre of the sleeve.
