Abstract

1376262 Carpet tiles BIGELOW-SANFORD Inc 10 Aug 1972 [18 Aug 1971] 37460/72 Heading A4S A carpet tile 10 or 40 has a water-impermeable back coating 16 or 52, e.g. of latex, adhered to its bottom surface and a fastening material having a quick release characteristic, to facilitate repeated fastening and release, adhered to the lower surface of the back coating. In one embodiment, Fig.2 the fastening material comprises pressure sensitive adhesive 28 for securing to a base portion which may comprise (as shown) a foam layer 24 with a fabric covering 26 or may comprise Fig.4 (not shown) a layer (32) of building paper. Alternatively, the tile may be adhered directly to a floor. In another embodiment, Fig.6, the fastening material comprises a flock layer 56 which releasably engages a flock layer 62 on a base layer 60.
