1376142 Key-operated switches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 7 Jan 1972 [22 Jan 1971] 3010/71 Heading H1N A key-operated switch and vehicle control lock assembly comprises a hollow casing 11 one end 11a of which defines the cylinder of a keyoperated cylinder lock mechanism (not shown), a drive member 15 mounted for rotation in the casing and arranged, in use, to be coupled to the barrel of the cylinder lock to rotate therewith, and to rotate a movable contact 21 for bridging fixed contacts 17 on a board 13, and a vehicle control locking device operating member 26 movable in response to rotation of the drive member 15, for resisting operation of said control of the vehicle equipped with the assembly, in one angular position of the drive member 15; said contact board 13 being disposed between said cylinder lock mechansim and said member 26; and said movable contact 21 being disposed between the said member 26 and contact board 13. As shown, four contacts 17 are secured on insulating board 13 by means of rivets 16 forming terminal pins protruding through an aperture 18 in casing 11. The co-operating movable bridge 21 is spring-urged on a moulded insulating carrier 19 which is coupled to drive member 15 and has locating means 24, 25 defining a plurality of stable angular positions. A spring 27 fixed to member 15 abuts a stop (not shown), on casing 11 in one angular position of member 15 and provides retraction when member 15 is moved beyond said angular position. The spring 27 may alternatively be between the upper part of member 15 and board 13, urging member 15 and therefore carrier 19 towards the cover 12. The member 26 may have an integral rib or peg to lock the steering or gear selector of the vehicle, or it may be of can form to cause movement of an associated locking element.
