Abstract

1375606 Friction false twisting of yarn HERBERLEIN & C OAG 16 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 12417/72 Headings DID and D1F In a process for false-twisting yarn, the yarn, 8 is guided to pass through at least two rotating friction twist tubes 6, 7 so arranged that the sum total of the input angles and output angles made between the directions of yarn travel and the rotational axes of the two twist tubes is at least 300‹, the twist tubes 6, 7 each being magnetically held in the throat of a pair of rollers 1,1' and 2, 2' respectively. The pairs of rollers are positioned coaxially, one roller 1, 2 of each pair being driven by means of a pulley 4 positioned on the common shaft 3. The yarn 8 enters and leaves the twist tube 6 at angles of approximately 90‹, and passes directly to the twist tube 7, and enters and leaves the tube 7 at angles of approximately 90‹, the sum total of the input and output angles in this case being approximately 360‹. The sum total of the input and output angles for each twist tube is preferably from 150-200‹. In a further embodiment, two twist tubes are arranged in the throats of the pairs of rollers 2, 2', and the yarn passes in opposite directions through the said two twist tubes. The two pairs of rollers may be driven in the same or opposite directions. The twist tubes are preferably held in the throat of each pair of rollers by means of a horseshoe magnet, having in addition to the arms of the magnet a pair of arms engaging a thickened central portion of the twist tube, which central portion is preferably of low loss soft iron.
