Abstract
1373652 Oxygen steelmaking BRITISH STEEL CORP 3 March 1972 [5 March 1971] 6141/71 Heading C7D The end point in an oxygen steelmaking process is obtained by monitoring the change in weight of a charge during oxygen blowing. The converter vessel 10 is supported on two pedestals 13 pivoted at 18 and resting on load cells 14 which monitor the weight change of the charge. The load cell 14 may be replaced by load cell (20) Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) incorporated in the slots (23) in pedestals 13 through which the trunnions (21) of the converter vessel 10 pass. After detection of the minium weight of the charge (point C) Fig. 5 (not shown), the final carbon content of the melt may be varied by adjusting the quantity of oxygen, Fig. 6 (not shown), blown after reaching the point C.
