Abstract
1362637 Refining steel ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH-EICH-DUDELANGE S A 9 Nov 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 51747/72 Heading C7D A method of introducing additives, e.g. Al, Fe-Mn, graphite, to a ladle of molten steel comprises passing a refractory-coated cylindrical conduit through the slag layer, introducing the additives through the conduit to the slag-free steel, and stirring the molten steel by blowing an inert or neutral gas, e.g. N 2 , into the bottom of the ladle. The lower end of the conduit may be a cone of sheet steel which melts on contact with molten steel, and the gas may be introduced through the bottom of the ladle and/or by way of a lance passing through the conduit.
