Abstract

1372390 Electro-photographic copiers XEROX CORP 23 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 59881/71 Heading G2H A vacuum hold-down device for an endless photo-conductive belt 12 comprises a perforated plate 131, from which extend ribs 133 and a wall 134 encircling the ribs, and a hose connector 143 having a flexible web section 136 attached to the plate 131 around the outside of the wall 134. When a vacuum source is connected to connector 143 the web section 136 is drawn against the ribs 133 thereby opposing forces which tend to flex the plate 131. Preferably a protective, air-permeable web 147 is positioned between the belt 12 and the surface of the plate 131. Three such hold-down devices may be used to flatten portions of the belt 12 at various processing stations in an electro-photographic copier. The specification also describes a mechanism for retracting a belt guide roller (claimed in Specification 1370798) a belt tracking system (claimed in co-pending application 59879/71, and a belt support frame claimed in Specification 1372398.
