Abstract

1372173 Pile fabrics SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 14 Oct 1971 [16 Oct 1970 23 April 1971] 49287/70 and 11030/71 Heading D1K [Also in Division C3] A carpet is formed from a dyeable polymer composition comprising a molecularly orientable olefin polymer and a styrene copolymer, the composition being used as the backing and/or pile yarn. The carpets, which may be woven or tufted, may be manufactured in conventional manner, but utilizing the above composition which has desirable dyeability characteristics, particularly when used as a backing material. In Examples, polypropylene is blended with acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer or butadiene grafted polystyrene, or a styrene-butadiene tapered two block, or three block, copolymer and fibres or tapes formed therefrom dyed in conventional manner, in some cases in competition with nylon, wool, acrylic yarn or polyester.
