Abstract
1372009 Valves CABLES DE LYONALSACIENNE-GEOFFROY DELORE 28 March 1972 [29 March 1971] 14587/72 Heading F2V [Also in Division H1] A device for preventing transmission of infiltrating water from one section of a pressurized waveguide to another, comprises a gastransmissive by-pass between the sections containing an agent which becomes impermeable in the presence of moisture. The invention is generally applicable to fluid pipe-lines. The two sections 10, 10<SP>1</SP> are separated by hermetic seals 11, 11<SP>1</SP> which are by-passed by conduits 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and a chamber 3. The latter contains a quantity 33 of cellulose powder which swells and becomes impermeable whenever moisture flows from one of the waveguide sections through one of the conduits 14, 14<SP>1</SP>. Infiltrating liquid accumulates in sumps 4, 4<SP>1</SP> where its presence is detected either by a float switch or by electrodes 44, 45 or 44<SP>1</SP>, 45<SP>1</SP>. These are connected to remote alarms 48, 49. Gas leakage is detected by a device 50 which responds to differences of pressure in the two sections.
