Abstract

1509382 Testing pipe connections for leaks M M HASHA 20 March 1975 [6 May 1974 16 Sept 1974] 46780/77 Divided out of 1509381 Heading G1S Apparatus for externally testing a threaded or welded connection 19d between tubes 17d and 18f comprises a body 20 provided with seals 22, 23, 40, see also Division F2, which can be selectively moved radially by fluid-pressure through conduits 24, 25, 29 to grip the tubes and form either a single test chamber 20a or two chambers 30, 31, one for each end of the connection. Test fluid is introduced through conduits 26, 27 and any pressure fall off is noted by reading a gauge (not shown) connected to the conduits. Triangular back up means 80a or garter springs behind the seal faces inhibit extrusion of the seals.
