Reagent is stored in cooled reaction vessels 59 Fig. 5 (not shown), and is transferred by a pump (63) through hose 65 into vessels 7. Pressure plate 75 meanwhile keeps vessels 7 pressed downwardly into thermostat bath 79. The sample-reagent mixtures may be stirred by individual stirrers 81. For automatic operation, sample vessels 31 may carry coded information in the form of a punched strip giving sample identification data and analysis. instructions, and this information is fed to electronic control unit 105.
