Abstract
1370493 Direct-positive emulsions EASTMAN KODAK CO 23 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 59963/71 Heading G2C A method of making a radiation-sensitive fogged direct-positive silver halide emulsion includes the steps of fogging the emulsion and thereafter reducing the fog level by treatment with an oxidizing agent. The fogging step is preferably carried out with a reduction fogging agent e.g. thiourea dioxide and a gold fogging agent e.g. potassium chloroaurate. The oxidizing agent is preferably one capable of oxidizing metallic gold and silver located on the surface of the silver halide grains e.g. an alkali metal or ammonium ferrocyanide, dichromate or sulphite, particularly potassium ferricyanide. The oxidizing agent may be added to the emulsion prior to coating or alternatively by bathing the coated emulsion in a solution of the agent.
