Abstract

1370095 Bridge transoms THOS STOREY (ENGS) Ltd 19 Oct 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 57793/ 70 Headings E1G and E1K A transom for a Bailey type of bridge has upper and lower flanges, the upper flange having over a major part of its length a plurality of equally spaced, upstanding threaded sockets 24 alternating with projections 25. The sockets comprise nuts welded to plates 22 having holes aligned with the nut. The sockets and projections serve to locate and attach stringers, e.g. as disclosed in Specification 1370094. The transoms may be secured to side panels either by bolting through holes 6 in the lower flange 4 or by means of a saddle 38 pivoted to the end of the transom about a horizontal axis 40, the saddle being bolted to the panel through holes 6. Location dowels 8 between adjacent holes 6 receive dowels in the side panels, e.g. as disclosed in Specification 1349749. Sway braces between adjacent transoms may be connected to plates 10, 12. A brace may be connected between the side panels and an upstanding plate on top of the transom.
