136,857. Marks, E. C. R., (Shaw Grenades, Ltd.). June 17, 1918. Projectiles; projectile fuses.-Consists in making a hand-grenade with a casing 1 enclosing an explosive container 12, Fig. 2, a weighted member 5 mounted to rotate in a fixed plane about a pivot 3, and spring-actuated rotary devices 16, which are released by the swing of the weighted member 5 on impact and then strike detonators 15, exploding the grenade, As shown in Fig. 4, the casing 1 is made in two shallow conical sections screwed together. The weighted member 5 is made of sheet metal packed with sharp-edged disk-shaped bullets 9, and its inner face 7 is perforated to allow the gases from the explosion of the container 12 to enter and disperse the bullets. Before use, the weighted member is held at safe by a pin 23 provided with a ring 24 for withdrawal. A delay-action detonator may be used.
