Abstract

1368241 Display devices J E HUNTER 31 Aug 1971 [1 June 1970 17 Dec 1970] 26250/70 and 60029/70 Heading G5C [Also in Division C3] In a display device, a transparent or translucent vessel contains two immiscible dyed liquids, one comprising an aqueous solution containing a surfactant, and the other comprising an organic liquid including a silicone, the vessel being warmed by a lamp whereby the liquids are moved by convection currents. The organic liquid may include a chlorinated paraffin with at least 40% chlorine, a molecular weight of at least 250, preferably at least 400, and a viscosity of at least 9000 poises at 25‹ C., preferably at least 18,000 poises. The liquid may also comprise white spirit. The silicone may be a linear dimethyl polysiloxane with a viscosity in the range 10-100 centistokes at 25‹ C. The aqueous liquid may include not more than 0À1% by weignt of an anionic surfactant such as p-anisidine sulphonate or a dodecylbenzene sulphonate.
