Abstract
1,274,780. Coloured phototropic glass. JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN. VEB. 11 Dec., 1970, No. 58930/70. Heading C1M. Coloured glass which is phototropic is formed by adding to a borosilicate glass or a borate glass containing silver halide 0À0015-0À05% by weight of at least one element selected from V; Cr; Mn; Co, the individual elements being in an electropositive valency state and the total concentration of Cr and Co not exceeding 0À02% by weight of the total. Further variations in colour may be obtained by the addition of 0À001-0À1% Se or S or 0À001-0À01% Te. Base glasses are given as follows in percentages by weight in which Me<SP>1</SP> signifies at least one of Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs and wherein up to half the Cl may be replaced by Br and/or I, in which Melt signifies at least one of Na, K, Rb and Cs and wherein up to half the Cl may be replaced by Br and/or I. Examples are given with the following colours: brownish-yellow; red-orange; greenish-yellow ; grey-blue and greenish-blue.
