Abstract
1365895 Paper PIRELLI GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd 21 June 1972 [14 Sept 1971] 54059/73 Divided out of 1365894 Heading D2B [Also in Division B5] An electrically semi-conducting sheet material for use in forming screening layers in electric cables comprises a sheet of controlledextension paper loaded with electrically conductive material e.g. carbon black to impart semi-conducting properties to the sheet of paper. In a preferred embodiment the sheet material comprises a layer of synthetic polymeric plastics material bonded to the sheet of controlled extension paper, the specified plastics material being a polyolefine e.g. polypropylene. The paper may be water laid of cellulose fibres. A controlled extension paper is defined as being a paper formed of adherent fibres which are crowded or pushed together in directions parallel to the surfaces of the paper, the surfaces being smooth and parallel.
