Abstract
1365677 Measuring physical properties of materials TRADE & INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 8 Dec 1971 [11 Sept 1970] 43625/70 Heading G1N Apparatus for measuring viscosity, elasticity &c. of a sample of material 12 Fig.1 comprises a flat plate 5 and a conical plate 13 with the sample between them, and Piezo-electric elements associated with the shaft 14 carrying the conical plate 13 which measure changes in compression and shear in the sample when the plate 5 is rotated or oscillated by a motor 11. Plate 13 is attached to the lower end of shaft 14, whose upper end is attached to a mounting plate 28 Fig.2 for two ring-shaped Piezo-electric transducers 29, 30. Plate 28 is centrally supported by set screws 24 in a housing 15 whose vertical position is adjustable by a knob 4 and lead screw 3. The transducers 29, 30 which may alternatively be of the same size and mounted on top of each other, are cut to measure compression (or tension) and shear respectively.
