Abstract

1363780 Heat shrinking plastics film around goods AHRENDT & BIRKENDAHL oHG 25 Oct 1972 [25 Oct 1971] 49236/72 Heading B8C Apparatus for heat shrinking a plastics film 34 around goods 33 on a pallet 32 comprises a plurality of heaters 3 arranged on a column 1, each heater comprising a combustion chamber for the mixing and ignition of gas and air, ignition means, and a tube to direct the resulting hot gases on to the film. The heaters may be position horizontally or inclined thereto, and may be adjustable in an axial direction. The column may be pivotable towards the pallet. A vertically adjustable cowl 29 may direct the rising hot gases on to the top of the goods or a separate heater may be provided. The bottom of the film may be heated first to shrink it around the pallet by a separate heater arranged in advance of the heaters 3, the bottom heater 3 then directing cold air on to the pallet. The column 1 may be mounted on a trolley carrying a gas cylinder, and a battery or generator for the ignition means. The trolley may be connected to the mains. The pallets may be fed on a conveyer to a turntable about the circumference of which one or two heating columns are arranged.
