Abstract

1363378 Internal-combustion engine starters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 4 April 1972 [2 April 1971] 15263/72 Heading F1K [Also in Division H2] A starter for an internal-combustion engine comprises an electric motor 10 on whose shaft 15 a pinion 20 and a drive for the pinion are slidably located and whose pole casing 11 has an open end facing the pinion and a casing 16 enclosing at least the drive flanged on to the pole casing open end which end is covered by an inserted member 32 which is in the form of a cup having a flanged rim 35 attached to at least one of the casings and having a bore in the cup base 33 to which base a sealing ring 37 centred on an inner surface of a peripheral wall of the cup is attached and embraces the motor shaft at a position on the shaft not covered by the drive for the purpose of preventing dirt and moisture penetrating into the interior of the motor. As shown the sealing ring is clamped between the cup base and a thrust washer 38 held in place by radial depressions in the cup wall.
