Abstract

1362935 Producing webs for slub yarns S MAFFEO 16 Feb 1972 [18 Feb 1971] 7107/72 Heading D1N In a method of making a fibrous web for producing slub or knob yarns a auxiliary web 19 is stripped by means of doffer comb 5 from a main web 20 undergoing carding between rolls 1-4, processed by apparatus 6-18 and reunited with main web 20. The recombined web is then divided into slivers at 25. The processing may involve lapping web 19 as it falls from belt 6 onto belt 8 by the rotation of the paddle-like lapper 7. The lapped web 19 is conveyed to main web 20 by belts 9, 10. In this embodiment belts 8, 9 and 10 move at the same speed as web 20 whilst belt 6 moves faster. Alternatively belt 6 moves at a lower speed than web 20 and belt 8 moves intermittently, so that web sections are carried intermittently by belts 9, 10, which again move at the same speed as web 20.
