Abstract

1362609 Clocks and watches OMEGA LOUIS BRANDT & FRERE SA 12 June 1972 [14 June 1971] 27315/72 Heading G3T [Also in Division F2] In a motion converter for mounting on an oscillatory member in a timepiece and comprising an enclosure 17 containing a loosely mounted ratchet wheel 3 which is advanced by co-operation with pawls 5, 8 owing to the wheel's inertia, the enclosure cavity 19 is filled with a liquid and is connected by a capillary passage 35 to an expansion chamber 37 which is also filled apart from a gas bubble 43. As the ambient temperature rises, the liquid which is a light lubricating oil can expand by compressing the gas bubble. Channels 13 contain stops 11, 12 to limit the oscillatory motion of the ratchet wheel which is made of Pt Co alloy and magnetized to drive a gear mounted outside the enclosure 17. Top and bottom plates 16, 14 are of jewel stone such as ruby and the wheel 3 carries four supports 20 of ruby or tungsten carbide. The expansion chamber 37 is closed by a cemented slip 41 also of ruby. The use of a single pawl to advance the ratchet wheel is envisaged, together with a means for ensuring unidirectional rotation. Magnetic attraction by the external gear normally holds the ratchet wheel 3 against the base-plate 14, but axial displacement as a result of shock is limited by a ruby disc 18.
