Abstract
1359125 Packaging machine ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 8 Feb 1973 [18 Sept 1972] 6288/73 Heading B8C In a machine for packaging groups of containers such as cans 10, perforations in a resilient carrier strip 12 are engaged and widened by laterally movable shoes 36 in assemblies 34 on a rotary drum 13 which then applies the strip over the tops of the cans so that the cans are held in the perforations, the strip being severed to provide packs of six. Carrier strip 12 is drawn from reel 14 at high speed and attached to the shoes 36 by fingers 66, 67, 68 which also fold down the side edges of the strip. Shoes 36 are opened and closed as they slide on rods 37 in response to the camming action of rollers 52 in trackways 51 on each side of drum 13.
