Abstract

1,040,535. Packaging. F. G. PAXTON. Sept. 22, 1964 [Nov. 22, 1963], No. 38603/64. Heading B8C. [Also in Division E2] In a strip of closures, each closure has a bag confining mouth and a narrow opening located in a longitudinal side edge communicating with said mouth. The webs joining said closures are broken in the machine which applies said closures to the bag neck. The strip of closures is fed into the apparatus along guides 54, 55 and a bag neck such as a loaf-filled bag neck is fed between wheels 51, 52 into the mouth 19 of the lowermost closure 16. A rocker plate 61 with lugs 64, 65 holds the closure while the bag is fed into the mouth thereof. When all the bag neck is within the closure the rocker plate is rotated by means of the rod 66 removing the lug 65 from the path of the closure and moving lug 64 against the closure to impart horizontal movement thereto. The next closure is held still by the guides 53, 54 and thus as the bag is moved along the webs joining the closures are severed at both ends from the closures. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 883,771.
