Abstract

1358952 Seats FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 15 April 1972 17476/72 Heading A4M [Also in Division B5] A motor vehicle seat includes a seat and/or back rest frame 11 supporting a foam cushion, such as at 24, and having a resilient channel section fastener 15 secured thereto, and a sheet plastics cover, such as 12, overlying the cushion and secured along its edge by a continuous trim strip 18 which engages the fastener 15 and clamps the cover edge against the fastener 15. A seat back, as shown, is formed by pre-shaping a plastics, back-cover 13, laying the cover 13 and a frame 11 carrying a spring medium 14 in a mould with a lid shaped as at 22, introducing a foam material into the mould to form a rigid foam layer 23, forming a plastics front cover 12, laying the cover 12 in a mould and forming a resilient foam layer 24, adhering together the two foam layers 23, 24, and fitting the trim strip 18. A seat may be formed without a rigid foam layer by laying a preformed cover and a frame in a mould and then introducing the foam forming material.
