Abstract

1356953 Automatic agricultural machines B RICHARDSON 16 Dec 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 60993/70 Addition to 1268181 Heading B7H An agricultural machine as disclosed in Specification 1,268,181 is guided by a system comprising a main feeler 14 and laterally displaced feelers 8, 9, and 10. The feelers 8, 9 and 10 are mounted on a shaft 1 by collars 11, 12, and 13 while the feeler 14 is disposed between collars 16, 17. The feeler 14 actuates hydraulic valves 19, 20 which signal lateral deflection to steering rams A and B. When the feeler 14 is lowered into an open furrow, a valve 21 is deactuated. Valves 2, 3 and 4 are arranged above collars 11, 12 and 13 respectively, such that when the feelers are depressed the plunger of the corresponding valve drops into a groove in the respective collar 11, 12, 13. During reversal of the machine, the feeler 14 is raised, thus operating valve 21 which conditions valves (22, 23), Fig. 2 (not shown), so that signals pass from valves 2, 3 or 4 to the steering rams (A and B). When one of the feelers 8, 9 or 10 drops into a furrow, steering is applied until feeler 14 drops into the furrow to allow signals to pass from valves 19 and 20 to the steering rams.
