Abstract

1355928 Fibril collecting apparatus SOLVAY & CIE 8 Sept 1972 [9 Sept 1971] 41817/72 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] Fibrils whose production involves the presence of organic solvent vapour (e.g. plexifilaments) are collected as a sheet 28 on a porous moving support 5. The collection is done in a closed vessel 1 containing the vapour of a liquid which is immiscible with the solvent. Preferably the liquid itself is present in the vessel and acts as a seal through which the porous support 5 and sheet 28 may pass while the vapours are retained. Suction is provided by vacuum box 4 to lead off the vapours to condensation separation and recovery. The process is illustrated for polyethylene flash-spun into fibrils from hexane solution; the immiscible liquid being water.
