1353944 Packaging in bags A HIRAI 9 June 1971 19641/71 Heading B8C Apparatus for packing goods into net bags comprises means for opening a leading end of a web of flattened cylindrical net material, pull means for advancing the open end of the net, means for preventing closure of the opened end of the net by constriction thereof, the opening means comprising a guide block for engaging the inside of the net, means for supporting the guide block through the medium of the net material, the pull means having means for engaging the opened end of the net, the closure preventing means having means for placing the opened end in engagement with the guide block, means also being provided for sealing and severing the trailing end of the bag and also sealing the leading end after the bag has been charged with goods. As shown in Fig. 2, flattened tubular netting is drawn by hooks 5 over a guide block 2 supported on rollers 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, articles 13, such as fruit being fed down a chute 12 into the opened net after the bottom of the bag has been formed by heat sealers 9. The mouth of the filled bag is then sealed and the bag severed by cutters 10. The guide block 2, Fig. 4, is formed partially of iron with a non-ferrous portion 2<SP>11</SP> enclosing a spring-loaded iron element 21 which is retained in the position shown, during a packaging operation by a solenoid 7, the element 21 being projected by the spring to maintain open a out end of the netting after a packaging operation. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the element 21 is replaced by spring-loaded pivoted flaps. In a second embodiment, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown) the guide block which is hollow and is formed with slits (22) with which the hooks (50) co-operate, is disposed vertically. Clips (60), (61) located below the guide block prevent the open end of the net from receding below the level of the upper face of the block.
