Abstract

1352019 Driving endless conveyers HAUNI-WERKE KORBER & CO KG 19 May 1971 [20 May 1970] 15783/71 Heading B8A [Also in Division B1] An intermediate store 3 of a tobacco-processing plant is filled by a conveyer 2 that is uniformly loaded with tobacco continuously supplied from a source 4 as the delivery end of the conveyer 2 is moved to and fro over the store because the drive of the belt 21 of the conveyer is such that the belt can only be driven in one direction; is not driven when the conveyer moves in the direction of movement of the upper run of the belt when the belt is driven, and is driven so that its upper run moves in said one direction at twice the speed of movement of the conveyer when the conveyer is moved oppositely of said direction of movement of the upper run. In one embodiment of the apparatus, the conveyer 2 is, through a drive 27 from a reversible motor 26 on the conveyer to some of the wheels 23a, 23b supporting the conveyer on rails 26, caused to be reciprocated along the track whilst the same motor drives through a suitably drive a free wheel clutch 31 connected to a drive roller of the conveyer belt. In the other described embodiment the motor drives one of spaced reversing sprockets mounted beneath the conveyer to carry an endless member which has a projection movable vertically in fixed retaining means to cause reciprocation of the conveyer and appropriate switching of electrically actuated means controlling the clutch. The feed speed of a conveyer belt in the bottom of the store can be adjusted so that one or more tobacco layers are laid in the mixing box of the apparatus from one charging of the store by the conveyer 2.
