Abstract
1351317 Soldering DEUTSCH STEINZEUGUND KUNSTSTOFFWARENFABRIK 26 Nov 1971 [16 Dec 1970] 55081/71 Heading B3R A process for preparing a composite ceramicmetal structure in which structure a highly ductile metal member 2 encloses at least part of a ceramic member 1 and is soldered thereto, comprises assembling the members 1, 2 with an auxiliary ring 3 of a ceramic material having a coefficient of expansion substantially the same as the member 1, the ring 3 enclosing the metal member 2 so as substantially to prevent differential expansion of the members 1, 2 during heating to soldering temperature, soldering the members 1, 2 and subsequently removing the ring 3, preferably after cooling to room temperature. The ceramic may be Al 2 O 3 and the ductile metal copper, silver, gold or a ductile alloy. The ceramic member is previously metallized, e.g. with molybdenum-manganese and an electrolytically applied nickel coating. In other examples of the invention (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) two metal members with separate auxiliary rings or with a common ring are soldered to an annular ceramic member.
