Abstract

1351119 Recycling plastics extrusion waste METAL BOX CO Ltd 28 July 1971 [29 July 1970] 36694/70 Headings B5A and B5B [Also in Division B1] An extruded blown tubular or flat plastics film 14, is trimmed at both edges to a uniform width, by slitter means 13, with the trimmed material being returned pneumatically to the hopper 11 of the extruder 10 with continuous movement along a path in which: the continuous strip cut by the means 13 are granulated into flakes during passage through a granulator 20; plastics granules are continuously added to the flake from a hopper 22 via a metering unit 27; and the mixture of flakes and granules pass through a cyclone separator 12 in passage to the hopper 11 containing a stirrer. The pneumatic conveyance is effected by a fan 24 which, by suction, draws each continuous trimmed strip through ducts 15 and 16 to the granulator 22, and the flake therefrom through a duet 26 into which the granules are added from the means 27, the mixture being blown by the fan 24 to the cyclone separator 12. The granulator 20 is driven by a drive unit 21, the metering unit 27 by a variable speed unit 23, and the fan 24 by a constant speed motor 25, the members 20-25 being mounted on a movable frame structure 19 which is removably coupled to the separator 12 and trimming means 13, at 18 and 16.
