Abstract

1350870 Packaging slurried compositions AE & CI Ltd 4 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45694/72 Heading B8C [Also in Division F3] Slurried explosive composition is packaged by loading the slurry through a loading tube 16 into a flexible tubing 18 shirred on to the loading tube and extending beyond the discharge end of the loading tube. Taking up the charged tubing in a side-by-side relationship on a reel 21 provided with equally spaced transverse bars 24 allowing the slurry in the tubing to set on the reel and tying and cutting the flexible tubing containing the set slurry at the voids 25 in the tubing formed by the bars 24 of the reel. As shown, the slurry is fed by a pump 12 through a four-way valve 13 to one of two tubes 16, the valve 13 also controlling a compressed air supply 26 for cleaning the tubes 16 prior to the application of tubing 18. Friction devices 19 control the discharge of the tubing 18 on to the reel 21, the speed of which is controlled by a sensing device 23. Before filling, the free end of the tubing 18 is closed by a loose knot and the end slit to allow air to escape from the tube 16 when charging starts.
