Abstract
1350853 Centrifugal compressors NETHERLANDS APPLIED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR INDUSTRY TRADE & COMMERCE 21 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 28949/72 Heading F1C A centrifugal compressor comprises an impeller with fixed vanes 7 which are bent forwardly towards the periphery relative to the direction of rotation, the impeller being provided with passages 9 which communicate via a common central chamber 10 with an axial liquid supply and terminate at their outer ends in openings 17 which direct the liquid outflow in a direction substantially perpendicular to the impeller axis and at an angle to the radial direction which is substantially equal to that attained by the vanes at the same diameter and in the same plane of revolution, the impeller being enclosed in a compression chamber 1 which is in open communication with a liquid reservoir 2 to which the liquid supply to the passage 9 is connected via a pipe 11 and from which the compressed gas can be discharged via an outlet 16. The liquid jets emerging from the openings 17 assist in compressing the gas which is drawn in through an inlet 8. The compressed gas is separated from the liquid with the aid of baffles 15. The passages 9 can be located wholly or partly within the vanes 7, and the openings 17 can lie in a surface of revolution other than that of the vane tips. If there are a large number of vanes, only alternate vanes may be provided with a passage.
