Abstract

1350427 Acetoacetanilides BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 9 July 1971 [10 July 1970] 32281/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises acetoacetanilides of formula in which R denotes an aryl radical which may bear one or more substituents which may be identical or different and are halogen, aliphatic hydrocarbonyloxy, alkylmercapto, alkylsulphonyl or cyano. They may be repaired by reacting m-amino phenol with diketene to give w-hydroxyacetanilide which is subsequently treated with isocyanates to give the carbamates of the invention. Alternatively, m-nitrophenol may be reacted with an isocyanate to give a m-nitrophenyl carbamate, the nitro group reduced to an amino group and the resulting amine reacted with diketene. The acetoacetanilides may be used as active agents in herbicidal compositions which may also contain conventional extenders, diluents and adjuvants.
