Abstract
1287522 Padded bags JIFFY MFG CO 5 March 1970 [28 May 1969] 10618/70 Headings B8C and B8K A bag for an article such as a book 31, comprises two layers of paper D and F, separated by a packing material E, formed into a sleeve and provided with a tear strip M. The packing material E is omitted from the end margins G and (H, Fig. 2) enabling the paper layers D and F to be adhesively connected together at these end margins. The end margin G is folded over and secured as illustrated in Fig. 3 to close one end of the sleeve whilst the end margin (H) is left open to allow the insertion of the book 31. To close the bag, the end margin (H) is folded over and secured by staples (30, Fig. 2). The tear-strip M, preferably of nylon, is located between layers 20, 21 and layers 22, 23 of the paper material. These layers 20-23, which are also devoid of packing material E, are lightly adhesively connected together and will readily tear when a tab R, carrying the tear-strip M, is pulled from a pocket under a corner P of the end margin G. The thickness of the layer D is 20 to 65% of the thickness of the layer F. The paper layers D and F may be laminated with a thin sheet of plastics material on their interior faces. Alternatively the paper layers D and F may be coated with a plastics material having a thickness of 5 to 20% of the thickness of the paper layers D and F respectively. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 953,707.
