Abstract

1349433 Composition for cleaning surfaces S D R DE BEAUJEU 28 June 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 30340/72 Heading C7E A surface - cleaning composition contains HCl, tetramethyl diamino - 4, 41 - diphenyl methane, and a diluent. The diluent is typically water, and may contain a surfactant such as p-nonyl phenol polyoxyethylene, a water - based bentonite paste, which may contain glycerine and cyclohexanol, and colouring such as methylene blue. The composition is prepared by dissolving the tetramethyl diamino - 4, 4<SP>1</SP> - diphenyl methane, e.g. 3-4 mg thereof, in HCl, e.g. 1 litre of 35-45% ag. HCl of S.G. 1À18 - 1À22, or alternatively in a little acetic acid which is then added to the HCl, and then adding the HCl to the agitated diluent. Metal is immersed in or coated with a solution or paste as above, followed by rinsing, e.g. with a NaOH - containing rinse to neutralize the acid.
