Abstract

1348160 Foundry mould composition containing petroleum resins SCHUILING METALL CHEMIE NV 22 Dec 1971 [31 Dec 1970] 59659/71 Heading C3N A foundry mould composition comprises sand, one or more conventional binders and an additive which is petroleum resin in finely divided form. The petroleum resin may be finer than 0À3 mm., and may be present in an amount 0À15-3% by weight of the composition. The petroleum resin may be a petroleum distillate hydrocarbon polymer having a melting range of 60-160‹ C., a specific gravity of 1À07- 1À16 and an ash content of less than 0À2% by weight. The petroleum resin is preferably one capable of evolving 40-90% by weight of vitrain. The binder may be bentonite or water glass whilst the sand may be quartz sand. In the examples a mixture of old sand which has been recirculated and quartz sand is used. A further ingredient of the composition is wood flour.
